Big news from Pakistan both about our Director of our Life Impact classes, Josna Azim, and about President Pervez Muscharraf's departure from office.
First, Josna writes that our 21 Life Impact classes in and around Lahore, Pakistan are continuing on as usual even during 6 hours of rolling blackouts and 110-115 degree heat daily. Our master teachers and Josna are heroes to continue working with our women during these difficult times. Can you imagine giong to school 6 days a week, four hours a day in minimal teaching environments and then going to work out in the brick yards or as a domestic worker just for pennies on a dollar? Well, these women brave all sorts of hardship to obtain their education! What a wonder they are!
30 children are enrolled in our first ever Pilot Children's class. They come from very illiterate families who otherwise can not afford to educate their children much less put food on the table with the terrible wheat and rice shortages. What a gift to these women and children you have given. What hope, what a chance for survival! Terrorist attacks are coming most every day; honor killings and burning of women on stoves are still a reality against women; schools are being burned and people are repressed everywhere in Pakistan today!
Second, President Pervez Muscharraf just removed himself from the office of President. His stability brought economic improvement and friendship towards America. "His exit leaves the politicians who pushed this stalwart US ally to face the Islamic militants and drastic economic problems gnawing at this nuclear armed nation." Today we don't know what wil happen in Pakistan, but we will be watching these politicians from the two coalition parties to see what they will do for the country and people of Pakistan. But, we will be continuing our outreach to women and children in Pakistan all the while!
